Our Care Certificate course supports new and existing care staff to build safe, compassionate and confident practice. Covering essential standards for health and social care. Additionally, support through clear guidance, practical examples and workplace-focused learning for quality care delivery
Participants will develop an understanding of the purpose of PEG (Percutaneous endoscopic Gastrectomy) / RIG (Radiologically Inserted Gastrostomy) feeding, indications for insertion, relevant anatomy and physiology, infection prevention measures, daily care requirements, administration of prescribed feeds, water flushes and medications, recognition of common complications, and appropriate escalation of concerns. Practical sessions allow learners to demonstrate safe techniques using training equipment under the supervision of a competent trainer.
Training is aligned with current UK legislation and recognised guidance, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (where appropriate), Care Quality Commission (CQC) expectations, NICE guidance, NHS England recommendations, British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) resources, and local organisational policies.
On successful completion, learners will be better prepared to provide safe, person-centred PEG (Percutaneous endoscopic Gastrectomy) / RIG (Radiologically Inserted Gastrostomy) care, reduce the risk of complications, recognise when urgent intervention is required, and contribute to high-quality nutritional support within hospitals, care homes, community services and other health and social care settings.
This practical face-to-face course covers the safe management of PEG (Percutaneous endoscopic Gastrectomy) / RIG (Radiologically Inserted Gastrostomy) feeding systems in adult care settings. It includes routine stoma care, infection prevention, equipment preparation, administration of enteral nutrition, hydration and prescribed medication via a RIG / PEG tube, routine flushing, troubleshooting common problems, documentation requirements and escalation of complications. The course combines theory with supervised practical skills assessment and should be used alongside local organisational policies and competency requirements. It does not replace employer-specific competency sign-off where required.
To equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to safely manage PEG (Percutaneous endoscopic Gastrectomy) / RIG (Radiologically Inserted Gastrostomy) feeding systems, deliver person-centred enteral nutrition, minimise risks and recognise complications requiring prompt escalation.

Learners who successfully complete both the theoretical and practical assessment will receive a Clarivive MedInsight Ltd Certificate of Competence in RIG / PEG Feeding and Management. Certification confirms successful completion of the training course but should be supported by employer-specific competency assessment where required by local policy and governance arrangements.
Recommended Refresher: Every 12 months, or sooner if local policy, employer requirements, changes in clinical guidance, or periods of non-practice indicate that additional training is necessary.
